The key to a high-performing EHX is excellent grout sealing of the borehole between the earth and the polyethylene pipe, thermally connecting the earth to the loop pipe while simultaneously preventing cross-communication of aquifers or contamination of aquifers from surface pollution. EnLink's experience with grout mixing and pumping technologies is unparalleled in the GHP industry.

Grout System
Historically, effective grouting of geothermal boreholes
has been challenging. Many GHP installers have trouble mixing and handling a
thermally enhanced grout of uniform consistency. Too thick and it is impossible
to pump/pour or handle; too thin and the EHX (earth heat exchanger) is subject
to severe performance degradation from poor thermal transfer. As a result, many
GHP installers cut corners on grout, using suboptimal materials leading to voids
in the annular space between earth and loop. GHP systems implemented by installers
using conventional grouting often suffer from disappointing thermal capacity and energy savings.
EnLink's specialized mixers batch mix
grouts of uniform consistency at large-scale
EHX projects. These mixers feed pumps
that move the grout through EnLink's
CTU
loop installation technology
into
boreholes with loops installed with
them, filling these boreholes
thoroughly
from the bottom
to the top. Furthermore,
these
mixers and pumps are
compatible
with all forms of
thermally enhanced
grout
materials, whether they
are bentonite
-based or cementitious.
